In Our Time - The Written World
I really enjoyed listening to Melvyn Bragg’s radio programme on the development of written language. I think we tend to overlook the fact that writing has always evolved alongside the technology that was available to support it at that time. Whether it was hot pokers and ox bone, wax tablet and stylus or clay block - the way that we communicate has always been shaped by the communicative...

Year 8s have been getting on brilliantly with their Tallis Lab googlemail accounts. As part of their Internet Savvy project they have made surveys for the Year 7s that will be their clients. They have put lots of effort into considering question types, layout and the importance of editing and technical accuracy. if you get a chance take a look and leave them some comments.
Here’s one example of a student’s film farewell to Tallis completed in an hour using an iPod. Jon Nicholls’ Year 9 (KG and JJ) groups have excelled themselves with a wonderful range of films - take a look and leave them a comment.

There are lots of ways of making your book using its online tool, or by downloading the booksmart software, For the technically adept you can also make your book in Adobe Indesign. If you end up printing the book then you also get an online hosted version that you can share via a URL, or use the embed code as I have...

I had a wonderful opportunity to hear the year 7 band rehearse today. It was great to see their ambition to improve, their willingness to take on new challenges and their support of one another. What a great model of learning.
